Derek Payne is finally back at home and will be recuperated in time.
Joann Liebig attended the anniversary church service at St. John United Church of Christ in Manchester, which celebrated its 150th Anniversary on October 11, 2009. Some folks in the congregation were costumed in 1860-era clothes. Some women were dressed in a traditional lady's dress which was a long white skirt, blouse and a shawl. Men had beards and moustaches. The women sat on the side of the middle aisle of the church and men on the other side.
The 2009 service was spoken in two languages - English and German. The primary language in teh 1800's was German - it was spoken in homes, churches and other public places.
Neither organ nor piano were installed when St. John's started. The music at this observance was duplicated - the song leader sang a verse then the congregation repeated it.
Irene Wirsing gave a tour of the Bacon Log Cabin on October 13th to Cub Scout Den 6. Steve Westfall, their leader, noted "my Cub Scouts really loved it." Each Cub confirmed this with a note above his signature, i.e., "We loved it!!!", "It was cool!" and "It was so much fun!!"
Irene finalized the tour with a treat - Tootsie Pops decorated with black pipe stems and wiggly eyes to resemble big spiders.
